French prosecutor accuses Uber driver of rape
France’s prosecutor has opened an investigation into a man who allegedly assaulted an Uber driver, but he has so far declined to charge him.
The taxi driver was filmed by a passerby, who was filming a police car as it drove past him in the suburb of Reims.
The video shows him allegedly pulling his trousers down and slapping the driver in the face, before getting out of the car and dragging him into a nearby park.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken to hospital and has been released.
A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office said they would investigate the matter.
The investigation follows a similar one last year into a similar incident in Reims, which saw an Uber taxi accused of raping a woman in the same park.
In that case, the accused was charged with rape, aggravated robbery and theft.
